10-day 2012 Fall Church History Tour

Saturday, September 22 – Monday, October 1, 2012

Sites to see include: Palmyra, Kirtland, Niagara Falls, Nauvoo, Carthage, Jamesport (Amish area), Adam-ondi-Ahman, Richmond, Liberty, Far West & Independence.

Sept. 22, Saturday – Those on group air will leave SLC in the morning and arrive in Rochester in the afternoon. After a brief drive to Palmyra, our tour will begin early evening at the Hill Cumorah. Lodging – Palmyra Inn.

Sept. 23, Sunday – Our day begins with a Sacrament meeting in Palmyra. We then visit the Martin Harris farm and Alvin Smith's grave before having an early lunch at Aqueduct Park. Afternoon tours include the Smith farm (Log Home, Frame Home and Sacred Grove) and E. B. Grandin Bldg. (Book of Mormon publishing site). We then travel to Fayette for a tour of the Peter Whitmer Sr. log home and visitors' center. Lodging – Palmyra Inn.

Sept. 24, Monday – Our day begins with a session in the Palmyra Temple (optional). After a final drive through Palmyra, we continue on to Mendon with sites connected to Brigham Young & Heber C. Kimball. We also visit Niagara Falls (Canadian side) before continuing on to Kirtland, Ohio. Lodging – Lawnfield Inn and Suites.

Sept. 25, Tuesday – Our day begins with a tour of the Morley Farm. Afterwards, we will enjoy a tour of the Kirtland Temple. We'll also visit the North Kirtland Cemetery, quarry, and drive by homes once owned by early LDS Saints. This afternoon, we drive to the neighboring town of Hiram to see the John Johnson farm. Lodging – Lawnfield Inn and Suites.

Sept. 26, Wednesday – We finish our stay in Kirtland with a tour of the Kirtland Flats (LDS visitors' center, Newel K. Whitney store, home, sawmill, and ashery. After lunch, we drive to nearby Cleveland for our afternoon flight to Illinois. We then travel by bus to Nauvoo where we will catch our first glimpse of the rebuilt Nauvoo Temple. Lodging – Nauvoo Condos.

Sept. 27, Thursday – Our day begins at the LDS visitors' center. Today, you have free time to tour the restored homes and shops. We have scheduled a tour of the Joseph Smith homestead and mansion house. Tonight we enjoy a performance, "Rendezvous in Old Nauvoo." Lodging – Nauvoo Condos.

Sept. 28, Friday – We begin our day with an session at the Nauvoo Temple (optional). Today you can enjoy free time for shopping and tours of the restored homes. We will leave for Carthage this afternoon for a memorable tour at the Carthage Jail visitors' center. Lodging – Nauvoo Condos.

Sept. 29, Saturday - We bid farewell to Nauvoo this morning and travel to western Missouri. Sites to see include Haun's Mill (weather permitting) and Jamesport (a small country town with a large Amish population). Our final stop is at Adam-ondi-Ahman. Lodging – Acorn Inn in Cameron.

Sept. 30, Sunday – We start the day with a sacrament meeting in Cameron. We'll stop at Far West, and continue on to Richmond to see the Monument to The Three Witnesses. Tonight we lodge in Independence where our first stop will be the Independence visitors' center followed by a walk around Independence Square. Lodging – Independence/Kansas City area.

Oct. 1, Monday – Today we visit the Community of Christ Temple, and the Church of Christ Temple Lot. We'll enjoy other sites in the area before going to Liberty where we tour Historic Liberty Jail. We then travel to the Kansas City Airport for our departure flight back to SLC.
